Adapting Not Comprimising
My main philosophies when it comes to teaching middle and high school band or orchestra is that everyone should be able to participate in the ensemble they desire and that students who are producing a beautiful sound together will participate in music for the rest of their lives. What if there are very low-level beginners with the most advanced student musicians? How do we keep the advanced engaged, challenged, and progressing while simultaneously progressing low-level beginners without over-challenging them? Additionally, how do we have everyone produce a sound that makes them feel proud at the end? My solution to this was to compose my own music for all of my students. This only worked due to the fact that I knew my student’s skill levels and I had the knowledge to compose for them efficiently.
So, this portion of the website is for just that. You, the music educator, can fill out a questionnaire that is tied to each piece of music that you choose in this section. Based on your answers and your needs for your class(es), I will send you parts written specifically for your students, while you pay only a fraction of what main websites like JW Pepper charge for similar services. It’s as simple as that. Oh, but what if a part isn’t working for one of your students and you can identify the portion of the music that needs altering? Well, I will give you a different piece of music that might work better OR I will compose a new tailored part for you. No extra charge. Keep in mind I also teach for a living so it might be after school. Just contact and I will respond ASAP.
